Now, you can say that the iPhone is old news. T-Mobile is making an interesting competition to the iPhone through the Gphone, the mobile device that is set to work on the Android mobile software. Incidentally, Android is made by internet giant Google. The launch is scheduled next week in New York City.
T-Mobile describes the Gphone as a Dream. The new device has been filed and approved by the necessary government bureaus and that should signal a big green light for its market penetration. The main selling point of this new phone is its functionality. Manufacturer says it has iPhone-like features, only it is way cheaper.
The phone can be sold cheap because apparently, Google is not charging anything for the Android software. As such, it is free for use by any mobile phone manufacturer to power up new mobile devices. Google would merely try to earn from their software indirectly. It seems like Google is interested in using the platform for mobile advertising.
While deemed functional, developers say that the Gphone can use a little more sophistication to its physical appearance. It can still be made more attractive, so it seems. While the Gphone uses a similar touch-screen technology as the iPhone, it is much larger and a bit clunky in form. It also has a hidden keyboard stashed inside the phone’s body.
However, iPhone still has the biggest market share in mobile phones and is quite comfortable in its spot under the sun. While Gphone can attempt to threaten their position, there are still a lot of things it has to go through to finally be hailed as the hottest phone that this century had seen. For one thing, T-Mobile and its Gphone would have to capture the public’s interest greatly, if they want to launch their product successfully – and enjoy market sales as much as iPhones do.
