Apple announced a spate of changes to their product lines today with little seeming fanfare. Here’s a quick recap for those untrained in catching Apple releases without the usual hype:
Mac Pro
A new line of Mac Pros have been announced with prices ranging from $2500 to $3299. The rigs will feature Intel’s Nahelem Xeon quad-core processors and a choice of either the Nvidia GeForce GT 120 or an ATI Radeon HD 4870 for graphics power. The low-end Mac Pro will fit a single Xeon 350 with 3 GB of DDR3 memory while the highest configuration starts at a dual Xeon 5500 and 6 GB of DDR3.
Mac Mini
$200 more expensive than the old model, the new Mac Mini has received a heavy redesign both inside and out. Early leaked photos of the rear have been confirmed correct with the new release, which features 5 USB ports, a mini display port, ethernet, an optical I/O port and mini-DVI output. It comes with a 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with a GeForce 9400M chipset and comes in two configurations, selling at $600 and $800 respectively.
iMac
Both 24 and 20 inch iMacs get a $300 price slash, while receiving a pretty good upgrade on the specs. While they look pretty much the same as the original desktop iMacs, both models now pack a 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, a choice of two 512MB graphics cards and 1 TB of storage, along with a wide range of connectivity options.
Others
The Time Capsule, Apple Keyboard and the Airport Extreme Base Station also get corresponding upgrades. The Time Capsule has practically doubled its Wi-Fi capabilities (apart from featuring an extra 1 TB of storage and a new “guest networking” feature), the Apple Keyboard got smaller and the AirPort Extreme Base Station now supports up to 50 users across both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands.
