fujitsulifebookp8020 Fujitsu LifeBook P8020: Powerful Processing At Only 2.9 LbsThe classy Fujitsu Lifebook P8020 is one of only two 12.1-inch notebooks from the manufacturer’s current line that doesn’t offer convertible tablet functionality.  Instead, it’s a feature-packed and business-oriented machine with a hardware suite that capably satisfies a whole host of processing-intensive requirements while remaining exceptionally light at only 2.9 lbs.

Hardware

The P8020 runs on a 1.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo SU9400 Penryn processor and ships with 2GB of DDR3 RAM.   An Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD comes onboard the device, allowing for capable rendering of most graphics-intensive games and applications.  With a pretty powerful processor, high-speed memory and a host of storage options (max 320GB HHD and 128GB SSD), this should support most any software you can imagine using on a 12.1-inch portable computer.

Wireless connectivity is courtesy of Intel’s Wi-Fi Link 5300 quad mode 802.11 a/b/g/n wireless adapter, which offers great speed.  WIMAX is planned in future versions of the model, so you may want to consider waiting for that, even though Fujitsu hasn’t announced any formal dates for it.  Other features of the Lifebook P8020 include gigabit ethernet, 3 USB ports, a VGA out, a PC card slot and microSD expansion.

Media

Expect no-hitch movie playback from streaming services like Netflix and great performance for many games, including F.E.A.R. 2, which ran on P8020 on native resolution like it was a hefty desktop rig.   A dual-layer DVD writer comes integrated with the laptop, along with built-in stereo speakers.  This isn’t a media-centric computer, though, so don’t expect much in terms of sound quality.

Verdict

The Fujitsu Lifebook P8020 is a perfect fit for users who want an ultra-light portable computer with processing needs that typical netbook boxes won’t be able to satisfy.  Battery endurance is especially notable too, allowing the machine up to 5.5 hours of non-stop use.  The biggest drawback is the LCD screen, which doesn’t offer any special features for outdoor use or angled viewing.  Should that be a non-issue, this would prove a great work machine for mobile professionals.
