Is Verizon Going To Get An iPhone “Lite”?

By Noel Kuhlman | Apr 28, 2009

iphoneliteAfter failing in its very vocal bid to woo the iPhone out of AT&T, not all seems finished for Verizon.  If BusinessWeek’s two sources has it right, the mobile carrier will be getting a couple of Apple hardware after all.

According to the magazine, Verizon could be carrying both an iPhone “lite” and a (4G???) connected touchscreen Apple tablet as early as the summer.  Given that this is BusinessWeek and not some random blog, there’s a huge likelihood that this is close to fruition.

Both devices have been rumored for quite a while.  The Apple tablet has been bandied about for several months now, with people imagining it to turn out like a blown-up iPod Touch.  With Verizon’s 4G announcements not long ago, that seems like a perfect fit.  The iPhone “lite,” on the other hand, does coincide with recent rumors about three different iPhone models rolling out during the year.

There aren’t much more details to the piece, although it did come with some caution.  According to BusinessWeek, there are still deal-breakers that can affect the outcome of the existing negotiations, including subsidies, revenue shares and exclusive distribution of apps (Verizon, reportedly, isn’t keen on Apple being the sole distributor of apps for their products).

While this could all be just big news about nothing, there’s too much of these talks going on now.  The move does seem logical, however, for both Apple and Verizon.  Hey Apple, I’m salivating for that tablet now…
