2053 New Sony Reader for Release in the MarketPortable e-book readers are getting better and better. Very recently, Sony announced their all-new 3rd generation e-book reader that they are calling the PRS-700. This new e-book reader comes with a stylus and a touch-screen interface. You can virtually use it like a book, where you can leaf through the virual pages of the e-book as you read every part of it.

What’s more, this new reader comes with an on-screen keyboard that allows you to type in words just in case you need to search for anything or look for the annotations. However, this model is yet to be equipped with a backlight. Currently, the only thing it has for illumination is an LED light placed right in front of the reader itself.

Also, this device can use some wireless functionality . It would be good if you can simply download the e-books you’d like to read instead of uploading them into the reader. If this new product from Sony were created with a stand-alone internet access, let alone a built-in Wi-Fi adapter, life would be so much better. To make up to that feature though, the device has a USB port and a media card reader for easy transfer of files.

The projected price for the Sony PRS-700 e-book reader is $400 and it is set to be released in November. The direct competitors of this device would be the Amazon Kindle and the iRex e-reader. iRex made theirs with wireless connectivity but it costs a whopping $750 in the market. Plastic Logic is also looking to release their very first e-book reader next year. Amazon Kindle is rumored to come up with an updated version of their device before the year ends.

Now, users have a wide range of choices when it comes to e-book readers. What’s more, portable e-book products are getting more functional over time.
