Portability and functionality is the name of the game. The more uses a portable device has, the better its appeal will be in the mass market. This is the challenge that the makers of Nintendo DS is willing to take on. With the wake of iPhones and PSP’s that can do more than just regular phone calls or gaming, Nintendo thinks it is time to add music playback and camera into their hand held devices.
Projected to have dual screens, a microphone, and a camera, the new Nintendo DS would certainly become an all-in-one mobile device. It can capture images, play music, record sounds, and run your favorite game.
These non-gaming features are definitely one of the boldest moves in hand held console arena. Set to be released at the end of this year, the new Nintendo DS is now a widely anticipated gadget. It is expected to be offered first in Japan, where the Nintendo headquarters is. However, it could have simultaneous release across major regions nationwide.
No longer a pure gaming device, the Nintendo DS is set to penetrate deeper into the mainstream. The device is predicted to be a multi-purpose gadget that can be enjoyed both by gaming and non-gaming aficionados. The new DS is going to have a major look overhaul too. To accommodate its fresh new features, it would have larger screens. It is reported to work seamlessly, easily, and steadily with the Wii.
However, the current Nintendo DS would rather have better graphics from their game consoles. The attempt of the company to directly compete with existing music player devices like the Zune and iPod may be a little too overdue. But then again, these added features might just eliminate the consumer’s never ending desire for a new music player.
