Nokia’s First Ever Touch Screen Phone

By | Sep 27, 2008

Nokia has been around as a top provider of mobile phones. They exist even before Apple came out with the very popular iPhone. But it seems like Nokia is not making much buzz in the mobile phone market today. Their last phone series, the Nokia N, E, and G series, can be considered as a hit in their own right. But they weren’t selling like hotcakes as much as iPhones do.

Now they’re ready to take on touch screen the challenge. Nokia is soon to release their first ever touch screen phone in the market. Called as the “Tube”, the public will have a first view of this phone on October 2 at a music-centric event. From this fact alone, you can expect that the new Nokia will be a fully functional music gadget as well.

Apple had set the trend with their iPhone. And over the years, a lot of big name mobile phone manufacturers and service providers are trying their best to mimic Apple’s triumph. Sadly, not many of them became very successful in their respective attempts. T-Mobile and Google had recently joined the fun. But direct competitors such as Motorola, Samsung, LG, and Sony Ericsson had already placed their bids. Now, Nokia is next in line.

With several years in the making, a lot of people are expecting too much from this new Nokia touch screen phone. Nokia is under extreme pressure, so to speak. They used to be the market leaders in mobile phone prior to Apple’s reign. Now, they are trying to take their market position back.

The new Nokia phone will be powered by Symbian on a S60 platform. Nokia’s target is the European and the rest of the international markets, where they are most popular anyway. In the U.S., Nokia is not tied or exclusive to any mobile service provider so the reception of this new device can’t be predicted accurately. The company’s last high-end mobile phone, which is N95, sold well to a couple of niche markets.
