Palm Opens Up Mojo webOS SDK To The Public

pre catalog 200x300 Palm Opens Up Mojo webOS SDK To The PublicPutting an end to the seeming endless waiting from restless developers, Palm has finally opened up Mojo, the official webOS SDK, to the general public.  Arguably one of the easiest platforms to develop apps for (according to those who have tried it), it’s expected to spark a flurry of new entrants to the manufacturer’s still-fledgling App Catalog.

For its part, Palm has been very methodical (to a fault, perhaps) with the SDK’s rollout, initially giving it to select development houses, while exercising a strong hand in quality control.  While the intent of such “scaling” isn’t clear (nor properly explained), that should all be water under the bridge as developers can now take on webOS in full swing.

Palm’s App Catalog started with 18 apps when it first rolled out and stayed at a count of 30 for most of the past month since the Pre was released.  Expect this to grow very quickly as eager developers take the handset’s reputedly programmer-friendly capabilities to task.

Whether development for webOS reaches a scale anywhere near the iPhone App Store is still a large question mark, though.  Over it’s one year of operation, the groundbreaking mobile downloads storefront has paved the way for over 50,000 apps and 1.5 million downloads.

Interested parties can download the SDK from Palm’s developer portal, where they can also access the associated documentation as well as a developer forum.  Submissions to App Catalog will open to the public beginning in the Fall.
