Product Review: The Canon 5D Mark II DSLR Camera

Fresh from the Photokina tradeshow in Cologne, Germany, the Canon 5D Mark II had made its long awaited appearance. Its public showing was such a pleasant surprise for camera enthusiasts and photography professionals alike, although a lot of raves have been created about this new Canon DSLR camera for quite some time now. The last camera model of its kind was released 3 years ago. It is high time indeed that Canon try to add a new, more innovative product to that series.

The Canon 5D Mark II is a big improvement in quality and functionality from its predecessor. Referred to as the second generation 5D, the camera is several mega pixels better than the older one. Capturing images at a high 21 MP resolution, it certainly can provide clearer and crisper images for you. What’s more, the new model is two notches more sensitive to light than the previous one, making it at par with the ISO 25600 standards.

This new DSLR camera can also capture MPEG4 videos. It can shoot and store clips for 29 minutes using the highest definition resolution that the camera can provide. And that’s about 1920 x 1080 pixels running at 30 frames in a second. It has got a built-in mono microphone for sounds too. But for a more professional audio, use an external stereo microphone. The camera has the corresponding port for that as well.

While already at the tradeshow, this new Canon 5D Mark II DSLR camera is yet to be shipped. Scheduled in November, this one would cost some $2,699 for the camera body alone. The all-purpose zoom lens, which is a 24-105 Series II, is priced at $3,499. Orders are being accepted for the time being.
