Finally, users of newer iPhone models can use the Pwnage Tool created by the iPhone Dev Team. Referred to as the jailbreaking software, this tool allows users to add more applications to their already functional iPhones. Upon installation, the Pwnage Tool will Cydia, an app that let users to install and browse some of the free iPhone applications available from all other sources than the Apple store. But even so, such applications have to be one that is not sanctioned by the iPhone makers.
The iPhone Dev Team announced today that the latest Pwnage Tool will now work with the iPhone 2.1 firmware and iTunes 8. No patches are necessary, just install the software accordingly. However, they didn’t mention if it will work with the 2nd Gen iPod Touch.
The Pwnage Tool is a widely-used tool that is very popular with iPhone owners – primarily because it gives them the freedom to install all the applications they want. Even if Apple had created more than a hundred million applications and downloads for iPhones and iPods, users are still going for the Pwnage Tool, which allows them to install apps that Apples are not accepting at their stores at the moment. Good example is the NES game emulator which can’t be found at the Apple store right now.
The latest Pwnage Tool is available for download, free of charge. It can be installed on your iPhone, provided that you are the legit user and owner of the device. The Pwnage Tool works in harmony with all the already-installed applications on your phone. However, users are advised to backup their iPhone’s firmware, data, and iTunes before proceeding with the installation.
There were reported bugs with the Pwnage Tool when used with the later versions of iPhone but the Dev Team are always fast with their software updates. This is why backing up is very important, as new software and tools are known to be shaky on their initial release.
